GOBO Replace guide
Magnetic GOBO Replace Guide
Rhino / Max projectors
Introduction
This guide provides instructions for replacing a magnetic GOBO, a type of GOBO held in place by magnets instead of a screw-secured holder. Magnetic GOBOs are commonly used for quick and easy replacement without tools.
Tools Required
- Clean, lint-free gloves (to avoid fingerprints on the GOBO)
- New magnetic GOBO replacement
- Dust-free workspace
Safety Precautions
- Power Off: Make sure the fixture is turned off and unplugged before beginning.
- Cool Down: Allow the fixture to cool completely, as lights can get very hot.
- Gloves: Wear gloves when handling the GOBO to avoid transferring oils from your skin to the surface, which could damage the GOBO when heated.
Step-by-Step Replacement Process
-
Access the Magnetic GOBO:
- Locate the front screw of the lighting fixture, usually near the lens.
- Use your fingers or a screwdriver to unscrew this front screw carefully, providing access to the magnetic GOBO area.
-
Remove the Old GOBO:
- With the fixture open, gently pull the old GOBO away from the magnetic holder. Since it’s magnetic, it should detach easily by hand.
- Carefully lift the GOBO out, making note of its orientation if it has a specific pattern.
-
Insert the New Magnetic GOBO:
- Position the new GOBO into the holder, ensuring it aligns correctly with the magnetic field to stay in place.
- Align the GOBO according to the pattern or orientation you prefer, as some patterns may need precise placement for proper projection.
-
Reassemble the Fixture:
- Replace and secure the front screw, ensuring the GOBO and fixture components are aligned and securely in place.
-
Test the GOBO:
- Plug in and turn on the fixture to verify that the GOBO pattern projects correctly. Make any minor adjustments if necessary.
Tips for Longevity
- Avoid touching the GOBO directly by always wearing gloves.
- Store unused GOBOs in a clean, dry space to prevent dust or scratches.
- Regularly check the magnetic strength to ensure the GOBO stays securely in place.

GOBO Replacement
-
Remove the Front Shell:
- Start by unscrewing the front shell of the projector. This will give you access to the GOBO area.
-
Remove the Circlip:
- Locate and carefully remove the circlip (a circular retaining clip) that holds the GOBO in place. You may need to use a small tool to gently pry it off.
-
Take Out the Old GOBO:
- Once the circlip is removed, carefully lift out the old GOBO from its slot.
-
Insert the New GOBO:
- Place the new GOBO into the slot, ensuring it’s aligned correctly if it has a specific pattern or orientation.
-
Secure with Circlip:
- Reattach the circlip to hold the new GOBO securely in place.
-
Reinstall the Front Shell:
- Screw the front shell back onto the projector to complete the installation.
Sharpness Adjustment
-
Power On the Projector:
- Turn on the projector and direct it toward your projection surface.
-
Adjust the Lens for Sharpness:
- For Long Distances: Rotate the lens to shorten it until the projected image is sharp.
- For Short Distances: Rotate the lens to lengthen it until the projected image is clear.
